What is the Function of the Prostate? Researching Men’s Functions

The prostate plays an essential role in both sexual function and urinary function for males, which is why making sure it is healthy and not enlarged or inflamed is a priority for many men.

      Prostate Issues

There are several health conditions which may affect the prostate.

BPH, also known as benign prostatic hypertrophy, is when a male’s prostate becomes enlarged

and often inflamed. This inflammation may cause many issues, including sexual discomfort, difficulty urinating, incomplete urination cycles, and consequential lack of sleep.

Many men who struggle with BPH have frequent and frustrating urinal urges which are often premature. Or, which are only partial. This can cause lack of sleep when men are unable to sleep through the night without constantly feeling as if they need to pee.

There are several things which may influence whether or not a male struggles with an enlarged prostate (BPH). Listed here are some of those factors.

What is the function of the prostate?

      Age

About 90% of men over the ages of 80-85 have enlarged prostate struggles. As many as one-third of all men in the United States have BPH over the age of 50, and many have this issue earlier on in life due to diet or other medical conditions.

      Diet

Those who eat well-balanced diets are not as likely to get enlarged prostates as early as those who have diets high in fatty foods, oils, red meats, and other difficult-to-digest foods. Eating plenty of clean, well-sourced plants, vegetables, grains, proteins (including slim meats), and drinking plenty of water can help to support a healthy prostate in young males.

      Weight

Obesity is a contributing factor to enlarged prostates. This is mainly because obesity leads to many circulatory, cardiovascular, and urinal complications. And, general weight gain and stress within the body can make prostates inflamed and enlarged.

      Risk Factors

Those who struggle with diabetes, hypertension, and other metabolic disorders have higher chances of developing BPH. This is, both, before and after age 50. Increased weight around the midsection can aggravate all of these conditions.

      Overall Health

Those who exercise regularly, eat well-balanced diets, live active lifestyles, and drink plenty of fluids have much lower chances of getting an enlarged prostate. So do men who take supplements and monitor their vitamin and mineral intake.

      Finding Support

Some men deal with enlarged prostates mainly by taking sleep aids, pain medicine, or by visiting a doctor for recommendations.

It is advisable to seek professional medical help if this is an ongoing and severe condition. But, there are many things you can do at home to support the health of your prostate. Here are some steps to take:

      1. Schedule in exercise.

Something widely considered as beneficial is exercising. However, we have not found all of the benefits of regular physical activity. Better circulation, decreased inflammation, and better overall health of the prostate happens to be one of those benefits.

      2. Take supplements.

Maintaining prostate health can be made easier by taking a variety of supplements and vitamins. There are many options for daily supplements, but make sure whatever you take is natural and clean.

      3. Watch what you eat.

Eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, grains, and quality proteins can give your body the nutrients it needs to support a healthy prostate. It also supports a better night’s rest, making sure you sleep well without having to constantly go to the bathroom.
